Bento Making

My eldest sis was a fan of this & somehow I got influenced after seeing all the interesting tools and beautiful bentos that was made. And especially with kids, the beautiful lunch boxes definitely help them to be less picky on their food.

As I do not have my own kitchen/house yet, it’s kind of inconvenient to try out the tools and bentos, but I have already started to buy some tools from the faithful Daiso. Can’t wait for our house to be ready! 😀

During Christmas in 2010, as my parents went to KL and we are left alone in their house with lots of ham left over from the eve’s dinner, I decided to try out some of the tools to make some fun breakfast. Dawn and Dear join in the fun and I must say that it’s a great way to bond a family!

Here’s one of our creation, the bunny family!

Bunny

And you know who get’s to eat what according to the size…haha!

On another occasion, Dawn also tried out cutting carrot using a flower mold at my sis place. Look at her! She’s like a very satisfied cook!

Cycling

We bought a bicycle for Dawn as a present for her 4 year old birthday.  Being someone who does not know how to cycle, I definitely do not want my daughter to follow my footsteps as I think cycling is a skill and it’s easier to pick up when young.

A pink bicycle with 2 guiding wheels at the side.  Dawn will always bring her favourite toy cat during her cycling trip and place it in the basket!

Her 1st lesson from the great master – the daddy 😀
She had since went for more cycling trips and had advanced from cycling at void decks to cycling from house to the beach nearby. Great job!

Getting ready for Junior 2 (Part 1)

Feb is my 8th month into the pregnancy.  Besides coping with the heavier belly and strained legs, I started to have sleepless nights as no one position seems to make me comfortable.

8th month! Means we are left with 1 month+ before the little one is coming out!

Besides getting Dawn ready, we also have to start thinking of what are left to buy or what can be re-used. In order to get Dawn to give up her pram to her little sister, we decided to buy a buggy board for Dawn to stand behind the pram.

We checked the prices at most departmental stores, and was disappointed that the Lascal maxi buggy board is a controlled-priced item and even if Robinson is having a 20% storewide sale or having a Kiddy Palace member card, the buggy board is still at $129! -.-

I was walking around in Mothercare the other day and it struck me that I have a discount coupon of 15% for “Home & Travel” items cut out from somewhere.  I asked the store assistant on whether the discount can be used for the buggy board and wala, it can!

So we saved $19.35!

Dawn posing with the box, she is so thrilled!

Dawn is 4!

A milestone for all of us, Dawn is 4 this year!

We decided to hold a birthday party for her, mainly because this is the age she knows and understands what’s a birthday party.  Hope that she will remember this birthday party.

We sent out an invitation via facebook and this is Dawn telling the guests “You Are Invited!” 🙂

P1030135

We had the party at my sis’s condo’s function room.  Dawn wanted a Strawberry Shortcake Birthday cake for this party and thus we decided to have a mini Strawberry Shortcake theme. We did up a simple decoration for the room.

Balloons were sponsored by Kat, my eldest sister, the strawberry shortcake theme balloons are quite worth it ‘cos it last for more than 2 weeks!  We had bought Dawn an Elmo balloon before and we do not remember that it last that long.

Here’s the place where Dawn cut her cake.

P1030155

The theme decorations are expensive in Singapore! I managed to find someone selling in some bulk purchase forum and it cost $4 per decor. It cost more than that in party shops!

We also prepared party packs for the little kids.  Dear was sharp to spot a strawberry bowl in Daiso and we were thrilled that our party packs need not have to look plain and yet follow the theme!

Pretty?

P1030159

There’s one for Dawn too!

P1030158

We also have a simple kids corner where there are strawberry shortcake colouring pages, puzzles and stickers for them to be occupied with.

It’s really a long 4 years.  To see her grow, to see her progress in her speech and intellectual, to see her getting more independent… There’s definitely a sense of “accomplishment” for see her grow.

Entering the 3rd trimester

The “honeymoon” trimester is over…and here I am, having a big belly, at week 30.

Tired, easily strained legs, sleepy, heartburn, is the things that I experience almost any other days.

But I am still very happy …..

…. With the little one actively kicking inside, sometimes playing hide and seek, sometimes playing Gotcha, sometimes playing boxing, it’s really a joy and an emotion which is hard to describe. She reacts to her daddy’s touch, reacts to mummy’s voice, reacts to sister’s laughter…it’s just so amazing that this little one with age 0 knows how to appreciate the simple things in life.

…. With my loving hubby, who takes care of me, who made me felt very adored and loved.  He bought me concentrated bird nests which I will never bear to spend on myself, never once complain my changing body which I felt sometimes ugly (because the eczema and pimples keep coming back to my face, hands and legs), takes care of the active 4 year old. What more can I ask for?

….. With my little Dawn, who just turned 4 year old.  Her progression lately has been tremendous and the words she spoke sometimes can make me fell off the chair.  Sometimes I do feel a little distanced from her because due to my tummy and tiredness, she now tends to look for Daddy for playing time rather than me…but I am glad because the bond which she is building with daddy now is something I hope it will stay in her mind forever.

…. With my family. Mum will prepare bird nests and soup for me when I made that weekly visits, Dad will ask how’s the junior and this kind of concern is something which we seldom will feel from the manly figure. My in-laws had took care of me well and I felt really blessed to have such in-laws. And I already have clothes bought by the sisters for the junior one.

With 10 more weeks to go, there’s still alot of things which we have not done…junior clothes are not washed, hospital bag not packed, cot not delivered here…ahhhhhh! I better stop procrastinating!

Looking Back

…. For the year 2010

Had an operation to remove 3 nerve tumours, Dawn went to full-day child care, Dawn turned 3 years old and had a Barney-ly birthday at home and in school.

We went to fly kites for the 1st time, got my 1st Mother’s Day card from Dawn, my laptop gave way and had a new hard disk exchanged.

The boss who recruited me left, had a new boss, a busy work year, a more than usual change of colleagues for the year, had some awful time at work.

Had a wonderful wedding with good memories, have a loving husband and very good in-laws and family, shifted to a totally new environment and loving the convenience.

Went to Perak for the 1st time, took night coach for the 1st time :p

Got blessed with Junior 2, had terrible months in August/September due to the all-day sickness, had the most numbers of hospitalisation leave clocked throughout my life.

Bought many toys for Dawn, witness the growth of Dawn, Dawn went to the beach for the 1st time, Brought Dawn to her 1st movie experience, Went for Dawn’s 1st concert, brought her to free shows at the malls for the 1st time.

Had a short but good getaway to Batam, seeing more light with the official legal papers, and BOUGHT our own roof which will be ready in 3 years time! 🙂

Went to eat at many places, such as Ambush, Boulangerie Cafe, Hyang To Gol Korean Restaurant, L’Espresso, Prego, Ootoya etc!

Wow! I think still miss out quite a lot, but can’t remember for now.  I think blogging and facebook status can really help one to look back.  So I shall continue to blog!

Ootoya!

Found out that Ootoya came to Singapore and I told Dear that we must try! Ootoya is a famous chain in Japan and I read that there are queues during meal times in Singapore.  Maybe everyone also want to try! 😀

We went for lunch at Orchard Central.  Order a kid’s meal for Dawn, which consist of Udon soup and the croquette.  Dawn love the croquette with the salad sauce!

IMG_0408

IMG_0410

I ordered a chicken set with a sunny side up.

IMG_0412

Dear ordered the pork grilled set and he said that his grilled set is much nicer than my chicken set, which I sort of agreed. I think they served pretty good grilled sets because the meat are grilled till soft and tender.

IMG_0414

IMG_0415

On a separate occasion, we bought my sis and bil to Ootoya too and this time, I order a croquette too!  It’s so nice that I kept wanted to have more.  Got to watch out my weight!  I think Junior 2 will love potatoes too because I craved for them!

P1020931

I ordered the cold soba this time and it’s nice! Can’t really describe the difference but it’s just refreshing and doesn’t give you the irk feeling after finishing the soba.

P1020932

Some more grilled meat…

P1020933

I also ordered the sweet and sour pork and it’s NICE!

P1020935

My BIL ordered the grilled chicken with salad and when Dawn saw it, she exclaimed “I want egg!” ><;

P1020937

Rather Authentic taste for now, hope that their standard will not drop as time goes by…

A Short Getaway

Was disappointed for not able to go Japan..and I was grumbling with my dear about how much I want to be out of Singapore before Junior 2 arrives.

And so we went Batam for a short 2D1N trip! It’s not something where others might chose, but I am contented to be spending couple time with dear and away from work.

We chose an early ferry time so that we can eat and shop before going to the hotel to rest.  Didn’t want to spend an extra cab fare from the hotel to the shopping area.

Our ferry tickets :

P1020820

Our ferry timing is 10.20am SG time and we will reach Batam at 10.20am local time.

P1020824

The entry gates to board the ferry :

P1020823

Penguin 7!

P1020825

After an hour ride (and lucky I was not feeling giddy from the bumpy ride), we finally reached Batam Center!

P1020828

Once we cleared the custom, we went to the 2nd floor to change our return ferry ticket for the next day.  It is recommended to do so, so that you will be able to get the timing that you want and not so rushed the next day trying to get a ticket.

From the 2nd floor, there’s a linked bridge that leads to the other side where the Mega Mall is.  And there’s a hypermart inside!

P1020829

We went A&W when we reached. That’s what most Singaporeans will do because there’s no more A&W here! And the A&W overseas seems to always taste better than when they were here in Singapore.

P1020830

Oh I missed this bear! 😀

P1020831

Yummy Yummy!

P1020832

And how can you miss the rootbeer float!

P1020834

The restaurant was quite empty because it was still early for the locals to have their lunch.  Beside us, there was another group of Singaporeans.  I was alittle taken aback by their loud exclamation on how expensive the fries were and how much it is after conversion to Singapore Dollar :< I was telling Dear that even if you want to be so loud, do it back in the hotel room…it’s such a disgrace 🙁

We went to have our shopping spree after our lunch and though I was easily tired, I was happy with the amount of things we managed to buy.

At about 3pm local time, we took a cab from Mega Mall to Holiday Inn.  It cost us 90,000 rupiah.  It’s a standard rate and it’s cheaper then asking the travel agent to arrange for a later pickup time for us.

We were upgraded to a 2-bedded room and it was spacious for the 2 of us. If only my sis and bil can come with us.

We decided to stay in the hotel to have our dinner as I was tired with the walking during our shopping. A pity that it’s not Saturday night as Dear missed the BBQ dinner. We had the pool grill instead as it was a Friday.

P1020844

The pool grill comes with a selection of meat for grilling and a buffet of other items such as staples, vegetables, fruits and dessert.

P1020845

Awful potato soup, I think the chef forgot to add seasoning…

After dinner, we went back to our room and had our own SPA and Facial party.  Because of my pregnancy, I can’t go for any SPA or massage so we decided to do our own in the comfort of our room 😀

I helped dear to do some facial and we both put on a mask after that. Heh, very interesting thing to do as a couple 😀

P1020851

Here are my loots from the day shopping trip! Dear bought 2 working pants and it’s so much cheaper in Batam then in Singapore! They are of good quality too!

We bought a lot of dawn’s clothes and also Junior 2 new baby clothes.  I also managed to buy 2 maternity clothes and they are less than SGD$10 each! You can never find such prices in Singapore.  The children clothes there are also very cheap, a good quality pants for Dawn is only $5 and T-shirt and shorts are about $1 each. I wished we had changed more money and brought our Samsonite Luggage there instead. Haha!

P1020853

We also bought the Mandi Lulur for my SIL and my sister.  Because of my pregnancy, I can’t use them yet.  But my sis said that it’s very good!

P1020855

Bought some instant noodles, and the Sate Mi Goreng is nice! I have since finished all the Mi Goreng! 😀

P1020856

Holiday Inn is a nice and peaceful place to stay in.  We went for a short Jacuzzi dip and it somehow relieved my soar legs and back.

P1020857

P1020858

The balcony comes with deck chairs and it’s a good place to do some reading 🙂

P1020860

I tried to find information on whether Holiday Inn provides shuttle bus to the shopping area but didn’t manage to find any before my trip.  I saw this running on the in-house TV and took a shot of it.

P1020861

Soon after our breakfast and some reading in the morning the next day, our free transfer van came and pick us up to Batam Center.  We decide to do some more shopping in Mega Mall 😀

P1020862

And how can we forget the Ayam Penyat that we have to eat in Batam? It’s so nice and the chilli is heavenly!

And the Avocado shake!

P1020866

Look at that! so creamy! Sinful! 😀

P1020867

Yummy Yummy!

P1020869

We bought somemore clothes for Dawn and went to the hypermall to buy some diapers for Junior 2.  Diapers are cheaper in Batam then in Singapore.  We bought Pampers NB and they are made in Japan 😮 We also bought a MAG MAG cup (Pigeon) and it’s less than $10 for stage1-4 all in one box.

Before we bought our ferry back, we bought some JCO donuts.  We ate 2 there and it’s so soft and nice! You can never get this same taste and softness in Singapore JCO.

P1020871

I love this trip and I think being happy with the little things, it’s a happy mechanism. 🙂

Christmas is here!

December! Yeah! The month of holidays, and taking leave :p

When Dawn saw the Christmas decorations in AMK, she was so excited and ran around, wanting us to take photo for her.

dawn344

We were in United Square and she wanted to take photo with the giant Gingerbreadman.

dawn346

We also went around shopping malls to catch some Christmas show.  The first we went was Barney show at United Square.  We queued for an hour, and because they only allow 1 parent with the child, I ended up standing an extra hour till the end of the show.  Nearly fainted because of the stuffiness and of ‘cos the extra weight on me.  I asked dear to go in with Dawn because I feared that I can’t stand up on my own as all audience had to sit on the ground.  You know how difficult it is for a pregnant woman to stand up from a sitting position from the ground.

But all is worth it because Dawn really enjoyed herself by sitting at the 2nd row from the stage.  The Barney is so big and real to her as compared to the DVDs she watched.

Dawn with Daddy :

dawn348

Barney Appeared! And then BJ & Baby Bob!

We didn’t manage to spend $30 in time to register for the free photo session with Barney so we ended up asking Dawn to take the photo from 2nd floor. 😀

dawn349

After the show, we went to Raffles City and thought of catching the 7pm Dora show.  However, Dawn woke up from her nap and we ended up watching part of the 4pm Dora show. Both the adults were happy as need not have to queue up again or wait till 7pm 😡

But this also means lousy photos taken…. :p

And this is how Dawn watched the show :

dawn350

好伟大的爸爸哦!

We went to Marina Square in another weekend and we caught the Hi-Five show.  Again, the lazy parents refused to queue to enter to the audience area.  I think dear doesn’t want to leave me alone again..hehe 🙂

Again, Dawn was at Daddy’s shoulder throughout the show!

dawn351

I was thinking whether I should bring her to the Diego Show and to meet her favourite Strawberry Shortcake.  Am going to clear some annual leave but worried that I can’t handle her alone outside with my big tummy now.

Dawn’s School Concert

It was Dawn’s concert on Saturday and we are all thrilled and excited.  Dawn woke up early and was in school by 9am.  All parents can only enter the school at 10am.  It was raining heavily by the time dear and me left the house but the spirit was not dampened.

Dawn getting ready to go school…

dawn335

dawn336

The “stage” area is beautifully decorated with this backdrop.  The teachers must have spent alot of time on the kids and the decorations.

The concert started with the teachers performing a dance.  I think they have proven that adults set good examples for the kids, and if you want the kids to do something, the adults have to do first. 🙂

Nice pose from Dawn. 😀

Dawn Concert5

Straight after this cat-walk, Dawn went in to the back and was prepared for her next performance.  We are amazed by the speed the teachers changed her clothes and accessories.

Pretty Dawn!

Dawn Concert7

Next Dawn came out in a pretty Indian costume and perform an Indian dance.

Look at her, issn’t she lovely? 🙂  Oh, the little boy is Shawn, the boy whom Dawn had been telling us about.  haha! She kept telling us that Shawn is handsome and she likes him 😮

Dawn Concert10

The teachers and all the children perform a song item at the end of the concert.

Dawn Concert13

Dawn was just so awesome throughout. We are so proud of her!
