Easy & Quick Meal – Bee Hoon Soup

My mum is a great cook for the family and I aspire to be like her one day. She whips up delicious meals for the family – from a simple meal for my dad and herself, to a table filled with different dishes for the whole gang of 10 during occasions such as Chinese New Year or family get-together.

She has her own secret seasoning method and recipes which I can never taste the same outside. The best is, she can easily win my children over with her food – EVERYTIME!

Dawn had even told my mum to impart her skills to me! I really have a lot of catching-up to do as the benchmark & expectation is set so high!

I finally had a chance to cook a quick meal for the family when my in-laws were away on a Sunday. Decided to cook Bee Hoon Soup, and it’s one of Dawn’s favourite meal at my mom’s place.

I used thick Bee Hoon because Dawn & I love them. 🙂

Now, cooking bee hoon soup does not sound like a difficult task to most of us. What can go wrong, right? The fact why Dawn likes the one that my mom cooks rather than those that we can get in coffee shops or hawker, is because of the minced pork. Yes, you read it correctly, it’s the minced pork. The marination of the minced pork can turn this meal from a “commercial” meal to a simply home-cooked comfort food.

And guess what? Dawn said “Mmmmm, taste like Poh Poh’s one” (“Poh Poh” is how she calls my mom)!

I got thumbs-up from my dearies!

Kitchen Fun Time #1 – Dora & Jelly

Won the Dora Magazine Issue 1 from MadPsychMum and the 2 girls were thrilled.

Dora2

Instead of using the silicone cups to bake muffins as suggested by the book, we decided to make jelly instead.

Dora6

Ta-da! Fast and easy! Simple way to engage the kiddos.

IMG_6342

Dawn & Eva enjoyed the activity and the fruit of their effort.  They are proud of their work and they only want to eat the jelly from the mould which they had filled the mixture with (Dawn’s is pink and Eva’s is green).

Dora3

Dora4

Though this is a simple activity, the kids :

  1. Improve their Motor skills (especially for Eva who is 2 years old), by stiring and scooping the mixture into the moulds,
  2. Learn to wait & take turns,
  3. Build self-confidence.

Try it! 🙂

An Invitation to The City

We received an invitation from The City via email. Since I need to clear my annual leave, it’s a good time to bring Dawn out for some fun!

Invitation

The City is an indoor play area, where the concept seem to be a little different from the other indoor playgrounds. It is located at Liang Court, #03-04A.

IMG_3891

It markets itself as an Interactive Learning Playground, where children can role-play and pretend play in realistic environment.

IMG_3887

When we enter, Dawn immediately ran to the Supermarket Station.

IMG_3895

First grab a trolley…

IMG_3833

Then some groceries….

IMG_3835

And then to the cashier…

IMG_3838

The children find these very amusing and they can go round and round doing the same thing…and it seem like most children like to be either the cashier or the customer, and none wants to be the storekeeper. Without the storekeeper, the cashiers’ counters are filled with “unwanted” items most of the time.

IMG_3896

Next, Dawn wanted to be a teacher! And teacher will usually start writing the date on the left side of the whiteboard before starting the lessons.

IMG_3893

IMG_3894

She started to teach the alphabets…

IMG_3831

But there are no students! 😀

IMG_3830

How about the postman’s role? Hmm, alittle boring for Dawn though…

IMG_3868

IMG_3827

IMG_3826

The Nursery is another popular station.  There were alot of children and Dawn had to wait for her turn. I think most girls of her age likes to play with dolls!

IMG_3870

IMG_3841IMG_3842IMG_3848

She brought the doll to next door and became the doctor~

IMG_3839

IMG_3850  IMG_3853

The Cafe is also another popular station where both boys and girls will squeeze inside the island. Dawn looks like a Junior Chef with the uniform!

IMG_3859 IMG_3854

Next the different roles such as Policeman, Fireman etc…

IMG_3840IMG_3867 IMG_3863

IMG_3881 IMG_3876 IMG_3883

There is also a Super Hero corner, and there is a rack of clothes for children to change to their favorite character.

IMG_3885 IMG_3872

But I think Dawn had the most fun with this kart…

IMG_3861 IMG_3862

It was indeed a fun place for children to have some pretend play.

Punctuality

At one stage, Dawn used to come out with many reasons & excuses to delay going to school in the morning or volunteer to absent herself totally. She can never beat the mommy & daddy with her excuses though.

These days, Dawn looked forward to going to school in the morning, to the extend that if she was asked to stay at home due to sickness or that the mommy wants to bring her out for an event, she will go “HUH? I want to go school!”

I didn’t really know what had happened to her change of attitude, but was definitely grateful that we can stop dealing with her sudden stomachache saga (trust me, kids at this age always use this same excuse!).

It’s only when I get to visit her school one day and I finally know the reason..

THIS :

P1050373

Her teachers started this Punctuality chart and awards each child with a colour stamp each day.  The child will naturally miss a stamp if she/he is not present that particular day.

And kids being kids, they love to see their row filled with stamps (some adults too have this “symptoms”!)! And the teacher will give them a small reward at the end of the month.

Some parents might think this is too early to start for a child, but I will raise my hands (and legs) to agree on having such teaching on punctually to start early.

Thumbs up for the teachers!

Disney Junior Exclusive Preview Screening : Doc McStuffins is coming to Singapore!

So who exactly is Doc McStuffins, you asked?

Bzmommy is honored to receive an invitation to an exclusive  preview of Doc McStuffins by Disney Junior!  This preview is @ Spruce restaurant (320 Tanglin Road,  Phoenix Park).

P1050827 (2)

We were greeted with a yellow tall banner at a corner of the restaurant and we knew that we were at the right place. Dawn’s eyes twinkled when she saw the “Disney Junior” Banner and the ceiling decorations.

After a short wait, we were introduced to Doc McStuffins!

doc-mcstuffins

Doc McStuffins tells the story of a nurturing six-year-old girl who has a magical stethoscope and can talk to toys that she cares for in her playhouse clinic.

She has a group of “assistants” : Stuffy, an exceedingly proud blue dragon; Lambie, the lamb who loves to cuddle; Hallie, a jolly hippo receptionist/nurse; and Chilly, a stuffed snowman.

Each episode includes beautifully composed songs and at the end of each episode, Doc gives advice about staying healthy and maintaining hygienic habits, such as keeping yourself hydrated on a hot day.

I simply love the “hydrate” song! Maybe I should learn it so that I do not have to keep forcing Dawn to drink water through nagging!

We had a good time watching the preview episode – which comprises of 2 stories.

P1050814 (2)

And after the preview, it’s tea-time!

P1050821 (2)

They really know what children love to eat…Dawn kept asking for fries after fries…

P1050817

P1050825 (2)

P1050824

P1050823

And this is my happy Dawn…and she kept whispering to me that she wants to watch some more episodes..

P1050810P1050826P1050813

We were given a goodie bag when we left for the day.

P1050831

And that includes beautiful band-aids in small little case – great for travel purpose or to include in the children bag!

2 red indians

Eva is getting more responsive and loves to play with Jie Jie.  And Jie Jie is getting more used to Eva’s way of playing than before..

Love this video so much! It’s always so comforting and full of bliss to see 2 children of a significant age difference playing together using the same method…
